Time After Time

Why do ceramic shapes come back again and again?

Ceramics are very old. People have made them for a very long time, for about 25,000 years. Many shapes and patterns return. They disappear, then come back in a new way. That is what the title Time After Time means. Clay is soft at first and easy to shape. After firing, it becomes hard and lasts for a long time. This is why people are fascinated by ceramics.

The show presents eight contemporary artists: Jantje Almstedt, Markus Heller, Mylasher, Sarah Pschorn, Karoline Schneider, Josefine Schulz, Ronny Szillo, and Hannes Uhlenhaut. Their works pick up older ceramic forms and ideas and turn them into art for today. In the museum, you can see how ceramics keep changing, while staying connected to the past.
