The International Ceramics Museum Weiden was founded in 1990 as a satellite of Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum Munich. It is funded by the City of Weiden i.d.OPf. in cooperation with the Free State of Bavaria.
In the historic Waldsassener Kasten, an 18th-century Baroque building, six Bavarian state museums pre-sent their ceramic collections: On the ground floor, Die Neue Sammlung displays modern and contem-porary ceramics; the upper floor features the collections of the State Collections of Antiquities, the Ar-chaeological State Collection, the Museum Fünf Kontinente, the State Museum of Egyptian Art, and Bayerisches Nationalmuseum. This joint undertaking is rounded out by the Seltmann Collection of Chi-nese porcelain from the Qing Dynasty.
Following extensive make-over, since October 2025 the museum has featured completely modernized exhibition spaces. The friends association Die Keramischen e.V. supports special exhibitions and events at the museum.
