Past exhibitions
Since its foundation in 1990 as a state branch museum of Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum Munich, the International Ceramics Museum Weiden has presented a dense exhibition programme over the decades – from design and studio ceramics to cultural history and collection-related themes.
Unfortunately, there are no longer enough photos of many earlier exhibitions in a quality that works well for a current website. Often it is mainly posters, press releases, catalogues or brief references in programmes that exist, while image material is either missing or only available in analogue form.
Nevertheless, the breadth of the content can be easily understood if you summarise the stations that have been handed down. These include larger overview and collection exhibitions such as 25+ Highlights (2015-2016), as well as concentrated individual positions and thematic shows on Eva Zeisel, Hans-Theo Baumann or Art Nouveau porcelain from Sweden. They are complemented by formative design and ceramic positions such as Beate Kuhn, Roland Summer and presentations on Hedwig Bollhagen and the workshops. Regional perspectives, for example through works by Elina Märtin, were just as much in focus as international references. This diversity between studio ceramics, applied art, design and cultural-historical context characterises the profile of the museum to this day and has been made possible over many years thanks to the cooperation with Die Neue Sammlung and the support of the Freundeskreis Die Keramischen e.V. (Friends of Die Keramischen).
