JÜNGERKÜHN: soft touch

Working at the interface between ceramics and digital tools

With Soft Touch, the Berlin design studio JÜNGERKÜHN presents an advanced form of digital craft in which digital tools and ceramic material enter into a genuine dialogue. The starting point is a specially developed machine that follows programmed movement sequences and at the same time reacts to the characteristics of the still soft porcelain. This interplay creates a surface aesthetic that combines mechanical precision with situational, material-driven traces.

The colourfully layered porcelain bodies are cast, engobed and then worked in a subtractive process that exposes the layers and turns each object into an individual variation. Soft Touch shows ceramics that are neither purely handcrafted nor purely digital – but both at the same time: a contemporary form of design that emphasises openness, processuality and the vitality of the material.
